WVIZ/PBS ideastream®: Applause

Applause is an Emmy award-winning locally produced TV show that celebrates artists and cultural groups around Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. Each week this on-air arts magazine broadcasts a fresh half-hour of features, performances, on-location reports, and interviews from the studios of WVIZ/PBS ideastream. Special thanks to the Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College for the use of their Steinway Piano on Around Noon/Applause.

A cupcake is, at its core, a very personal decadence. Whether its made of chocolate, peanut butter or strawberries, the cupcake is a solitary and delicious treat that's just for you. Right now we're going to make your mouth water with an artistic examination of this delightful delectable. And we begin at Cleveland's West Side Market...

Although Michael Salinger isn't an artist in the brush and canvas sense, he does manage to paint vivid pictures not with oils or pastels but with nouns, pronouns and metaphors. His latest book of poems, Stingray, New and Collected Poems, is a collection of larger-than-life tales of family and everyday life.

With two pro football teams in the state of Ohio, and the best fans in the world, you might conclude that the Pro Football Hall of Fame wound up in Canton for those reasons alone, but it's actually simpler than that. Canton landed the Pro Football Hall of Fame because it's the birth place of the National Football League. In 1920, a group of business men including Ralph Hay, the owner of the Canton Bulldogs, met to lay out a plan for creating the American Professional Football Association, which later became the NFL.
