WVIZ/PBS ideastream®: Applause

Applause is an Emmy award-winning locally produced TV show that celebrates artists and cultural groups around Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. Each week this on-air arts magazine broadcasts a fresh half-hour of features, performances, on-location reports, and interviews from the studios of WVIZ/PBS ideastream. Special thanks to the Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College for the use of their Steinway Piano on Around Noon/Applause.

The Standing Rock Film Festival began six years ago in Kent as a celebration of independent films. Today the event is an international affair with movies from around the world. At the helm since the beginning is the Executive Director of Standing Rock Cultural Arts, Jeff Ingram, and joining him is one of the festival organizers Cindy Penter.

Violinist Joel Smirnoff has honed his chops well enough to play with one of the country's most respected string quartets - the Juilliard - for more than two decades. These days, Joel is watching over a whole campus full of potential champions in his role as President of the Cleveland Institute of Music, and he joins host Dee Perry for an interview.

Like great music, great art takes time, skill and sometimes great patience. Just imagine making a 20-by-25-foot mosaic out of tiles no bigger than your fingernail. That's exactly what Dollar Bank had commissioned for their new headquarters in downtown Cleveland of their company logo.
