Graphic Novelist Harvey Pekar is a star in his own right who's about to take a big leap of faith, moving from the comforts of the written page to the uncertainty of the stage. That leap is the debut of Leave Me Alone!, a jazz opera based partly on the lives of Harvey Pekar and Avant-garde Saxophonist Dan Plonsey. The opera chronicles the challenges that most artists face when they're trying balance day-to-day life with creating art.

Several times a week Harry Bacharach takes on the role of a fedora and sunglasses-wearing cool cat who croons quirky vocals while playing a mean piano. Harry will join us for this edition of Applause.

For almost half-a-century, Northeast Ohio has celebrated the vision and creativity of the artists who live and work here with what's known as the Cleveland Arts Prize. Whether it's dance, architecture, music or literature, The Cleveland Arts Prize recognizes not only the names of long-time veteran artists, but up and coming artists as well. The prize is currently accepting nominations for the 2009 ceremony, and joining Dee Perry for a preview will be Executive Director, Marcie Bergman.
