We frame a conversation about the early days of Rock and Roll, and smack in the center of that frame, we place the pictures of George Shuba. Shuba was shooting film when the Beatles snuck into Cleveland one night in 1964. He was there when crowds stretched 'round the block to see Jimi Hendrix at Music Hall in 1968. Shuba was on the scene at countless TV gigs, concerts, and in the midst of frenzied crowds, capturing a revolution in music. What Shuba shot then is now a part of rock history, and you can experience it at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in an exhibit titled Cleveland Rocks: The Birthplace of Rock and Roll. Geroge Shuba joins us for this edition of Applause.

Earlier, we heard about the many rock and R&B artists photographer George Shuba captured on film, and when you read about their careers you realize that church was often their first stop as performers. For gospel singer Alvin Frazier, it remains an important stop, as Frazier takes his audience to new heights during Sunday service at Light of Liberty Church on Cleveland's east side. With his new album, Love and Faith: Volume Two, Alvin Frazier is also hoping to grow an audience outside that sanctuary.
