WVIZ/PBS ideastream®: Applause

Applause is an Emmy award-winning locally produced TV show that celebrates artists and cultural groups around Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. Each week this on-air arts magazine broadcasts a fresh half-hour of features, performances, on-location reports, and interviews from the studios of WVIZ/PBS ideastream. Special thanks to the Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College for the use of their Steinway Piano on Around Noon/Applause.

Native Americans never saw the intricate everyday objects they created as works of art, but rather as expressions of their experiences and dreams others did…including those at the Cleveland Museum of Art. They were one of the first institutions to include American Indian objects as part of their permanent collection. Regarding it as fine art. That tradition of support continues in the stunning new exhibit, Art of the American Indians: The Thaw Collection at CMA…
And artist Augusto Bordelois sees himself as a journeyman of sorts. Very hands…precise, hard working and involved in many things from painting, illustration, costume and landscape design to even building floats. But what he likes best of all is teaching art in the community…
Plus we'll take a look at an organization that celebrated the arts unlike any other group in Cleveland’s history, the Kokoon Arts Club. These devotees of the Avant-garde burst on the scene at the turn of the 20th and turned the art world upside down.
