Newsmaker: Michael Schwartz, PhD, president, Cleveland State University. This week’s Democratic debate between Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama was the biggest political event to hit Cleveland since the vice-presidential debate of 2004 and Cleveland State University was at the epicenter. CSU not only hosted the event at the Wolstein Center, but was instrumental in planning and raising money for it. Dr. Schwartz will tell us the story of the hectic days leading up to the debate.
Roundtable: Mark Naymik, politics writer, The Plain Dealer; Mary Jane Skala, senior editor, Sun News; Kevin O’Brien, editorial writer, The Plain Dealer.
Politics Roundup: Our roundtable panelists will evaluate the form and substance of the Cleveland State presidential debate. They’ll also look ahead to how the voters might be leaning with the Ohio primary just days away. And they’ll take a look at races and issues that will top the March 4th ballot. This segment will also include a short Q&A with the Republican front-runner, Arizona Senator John McCain, who visited Cleveland this week.
State of the City: Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson delivered his annual State of the City address on Thursday. The Mayor said he expects challenges in the next year because expenses are rising at a time when revenues are falling. But he says the budget is balanced and the city is moving in the right direction.
Ameritrust Bust: The Cuyahoga County commissioners might soon put the former Ameritrust building on the market again. The county and the lone bidder for the Tower, K&D Group, have not been able to work out the final details on the proposed sale. K&D had hoped to turn the tower into an office and residential complex.
