Newsmaker: Joe Calabrese, CEO and General Mgr, Greater Cleveland RTA: Last year, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority was named the best transit system in North America, partially based on its ability to hold off fare increases. Sick Transit: With gasoline prices on the rise, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority has long offered Northeast Ohio commuters a way to ease the pain at the pump. But now, as bus and rapid cars are starting to fill-up, RTA has announced plans for service cuts and price hikes.

A Shrinking Feeling: Northeast Ohio took another population hit this week as the U.S. Census Bureau reported that Cleveland lost more people last year than any other city in the country. Akron is also on a downward slide, and suburban communities such as Bay Village and Shaker Heights have lost population at an even faster pace than the urban core.

Wait Until Next Year… Again: Baseball fans are still brooding over the loss of a prominent Northeast Ohioan. This week’s trade of pitching ace C.C. Sabathia has sent the faithful back into a familiar feeling of “here we go again”. The Cy Young award winner is the latest in a line of local heroes to depart for greener monetary pastures.

Searching for Ohio’s Promise: After a week of gloomy news, let’s pause to consider a possible point of light. It’s called the “Kalamazoo Promise” and it’s causing comment across the country.
