A very special edition of Feagler & Friends
On the day after Thanksgiving, we examine the reason for a uniquely American holiday: gratitude. 19th-century clergyman and abolitionist Henry Ward Beecher said, “The unthankful heart...discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings!” We’ll discover why thanksgiving is good for the soul with local members of the clergy:
--The Very Reverend Tracey Lind, dean of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral
--Rabbi Richard Block, senior rabbi, Temple Tifereth Israel
--Reverend Donald Dunson, professor of systematic theology, St. Mary Seminary
The World Awaits: The election of Barack Obama as President of the United States received favorable reviews around the world, but will the honeymoon last? American troops are committed to Iraq and Afghanistan for years to come, Iran and Russia are increasingly bellicose, and emerging powers China and India are ratcheting up the competition. The new administration will be forced to contend with foreign complications in addition to multiple crises at home. Mr. Feagler will discuss these challenges with Plain Dealer foreign affairs writer Elizabeth Sullivan.
