The Cleveland Play House announced plans this week to share space with the drama department at Cleveland State University at the recently-renovated Allen Theater. Sources told The Plain Dealer that the Cleveland Clinic is negotiating acquisition of the Play House property on Euclid Avenue for future expansion. The Play House has been in existence since 1927.

Medical Mart Agreement: Cuyahoga County officials took the wraps off a 61-page agreement that will determine who benefits and who pays for operation of the proposed convention center and Medical Mart. The document will be finalized next week by the county and Merchandise Mart Properties Inc., the Chicago company that will build and operate the facilities.

Government Reform: State Senator Timothy Grendell is the latest to take a stab at retooling Cuyahoga County government. Grendell wants to replace the current county commissioner system with an elected county executive and a council. At least two other plans are in various stages of formulation. Previous plans have bogged down in opposition by the local political establishment.

Obama’s Travels
: President Obama has spent much of the last two weeks abroad, first at the G-20 summit, then in the Middle East. The President set the stage for future U.S. involvement in world affairs by telling European leaders he intends more cooperation with foreign governments; then by seeking more active engagement with the Muslim world. His trip included stops in Iraq and Turkey where he met with national leaders.
