Joe Calabrese, CEO and General Manager, Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority: The RTA is preparing to scrap its Community Circulator service, 12 routes in all, on September 20th. The move is expected to save the transit authority $5-million. Many riders and community leaders have objected to the decision saying they’ll lose a valuable source of transportation, but RTA says the circulator routes are lightly-traveled compared to routes served by larger buses. RTA and other transit systems in northeast Ohio have been hard-hit by the economic downturn which they say has diminished the tax revenue that keeps the buses and trains running.
Tom Ganley, northeast Ohio car dealer and U.S. Senate candidate:
Ganley declared in the spring that he’s entering the Republican Senate primary hoping to gain a spot in the fall 2010 election. Ganley parlayed a single Nash Rambler dealership into the largest group of dealerships in Ohio. He says it’s his business experience and his status as an outsider that sets him apart from others in the Senate. He’ll face former Congressman Rob Portman in the primary, a candidate already endorsed by George Voinovich, the retiring Senator whose seat is up for grabs.
Ronn Richard, CEO, Cleveland Foundation and Ohio “Infrastructure Czar”:
When Governor Strickland set out to make plans for spending Ohio’s share of billions in federal stimulus money, he turned to a Clevelander who gives away money for a living. Richard helped the state develop the framework for vetting thousands of stimulus money requests. He’ll explain how the process was set up and how the state will benefit.
