Dick Feagler is off this week. Ideastream’s Rick Jackson will host the program.
Newsmaker 1: Commander (USN) Sunita ‘Suni’ Williams, NASA astronaut. The Euclid-born astronaut flew for more than six months aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and set a world record for female astronauts with four spacewalks totaling more than 29 hours. Williams also staged her own version of the Boston Marathon, running for hours on the ISS treadmill. We’re also certain that she’s the first person to carry Cleveland-made Slovenian sausages and Euclid Beach popcorn balls into space, which she shared with her crewmates.
Newsmaker 2: Adam Wasserman, president and CEO, Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority. The Port Authority, for the first time, has a long-range strategic plan. It envisions making the port of Cleveland a major destination for the world’s cargo ships and making the port a major player in the economic revitalization of greater Cleveland. Wasserman will explain how port expansion could result in creation of 50,000 jobs and billions of dollars in new private investment. He was named Port Authority president in February of 2007.
Newsmaker 3: Harriet Applegate, Executive Secretary, North Shore AFL-CIO Federation of Labor. She was elected in April to head northeast Ohio’s largest organized labor federation and is the first woman to hold that position. We’ll mark the approach of Labor Day by talking with her about the federation’s goals in what is traditionally one of America’s strongest labor towns.
