Many were deported, others jailed on criminal charges. Senators are debating a major rewrite of the nation’s immigration laws to create a possible pathway to citizenship to millions who’ve entered the country illegally.
Roundtable: Joan Mazzolini, reporter, The Plain Dealer; Greg Saber, reporter, WTAM 1100; Richard Osborne, editor, Ohio Magazine.
Immigration Follow-up: After speaking to David Leopold, Mr. Feagler and the roundtable will discuss the on-going immigration debate.
Gas Prices Soar: With the first big warm-weather travel weekend upon us, gasoline prices are at record highs. The national average this week was $3.22, a record even by inflationary standards. Prices in Cleveland reached as high as $3.50. The House of Representatives this week passed a bill calling for stiff penalties if dealers are caught gouging customers.
Travelers High on Hopkins: Frequent flyers are more than favorable to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. In a recent survey, Hopkins was rated among the top mid-size airports in the United States. Travelers say they find the airport easy to get to, parking is convenient, and they’re happy with the ease of baggage-handling.
Unique Sentence for Local Landlord: A Lakewood landlord has been sentenced to live in his own apartment building until he clears up conditions that brought bitter complaints from tenants. Residents say they’ve had to survive for weeks without heat, hot water or operable stoves. They say they’ve been forced to go to friends’ homes to take showers.
