Cleveland School Reform: CEO Eugene Sanders is making his boldest pitch yet to make Cleveland Schools a better place for learning. He wants all students to wear uniforms; he plans to start a limited number of single-sex academies; open schools tuned to specific academics; and start a school for troubled youth named for Glenville High football coach Ted Ginn, Sr. He says the changes are necessary to improve test scores and graduation rates.

Draft Poll Workers: Ohio's new chief elections officer wants to change the way the state's precincts are staffed on election day. Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner wants to select poll workers at random in the same manner jurors are summoned. Like jurors, they'd have to serve. The idea's gotten a chilly reception from lawmakers.

Polls: A poll by Connecticut's Quinnipiac University shows Sen. Hillary Clinton with a 3-to-1 lead in Ohio over any Democratic challenger. But in a head-to-head contest with leading Republican candidates, the results fell within the poll's margin of error. Ohioans preferred former NYC Mayor Rudolph Giuliani over Arizona Senator John McCain. And for many Ohioans, the jury is out on Governor Strickland. 45% approve of his performance so far, 12% disapprove, 43% are undecided.

Most Influential: The Plain Dealer recently polled historians on their choices for the most influential people in Cleveland's history. Industrialist John D. Rockefeller was the top choice followed by industrialist and early Cleveland Mayor Thomas L. Johnson.

Newsmaker: C. Frank Figliuzzi, Special Agent in Charge, Cleveland FBI. He took over as leader of the FBI office in late December after a stint at the head of the Bureau's counter-terrorism squad in Miami. He expects counter-terrorism to be a major focus in Cleveland as well and he's hoping to forge a solid relationship with local law enforcement.
