Newsmaker: Eric Brewer, Mayor of East Cleveland: The financially-strapped inner-ring suburb has a new mayor, but the same old problems. Can a former journalist straighten them out? We'll ask him.

Jackson Takes Office: Frank Jackson was sworn in as Cleveland's 56th mayor in ceremonies at East Tech High School in the ward Jackson has represented since the late 80s. Jackson takes over the reins of a city stuck in a rut and trying to cast off its image as a notch on the Rust Belt.
Bishop Pilla Says Amen: The long-time spiritual leader of Cleveland's huge Catholic community has told the Vatican it's time to start looking for his replacement. The 73-year-old Anthony Pilla has not explained publicly why he's planning to step down, but he's suffered from serious health problems in recent years. He's shepherded the Cleveland flock since 1981.
Lobbyist Pleads Guilty: Jack Abramoff fesses up to federal charges of conspiracy, fraud and tax evasion. For years, he's been a middle man who's connected the well-heeled to the power brokers on Capitol Hill. Now, some movers and shakers are doing some shaking of their own as Abramoff promises to point the finger at politicians who've allowed themselves to be bought.
Coca-Cola Out at UM: The University of Michigan has suspended sale of Coca-Cola products on its three campuses. A student group accused Coke of permitting human rights and environmental abuses in Columbia and India. Several other schools have taken the same action. The company has denied the abuses, but said it couldn't meet a U of M deadline for agreeing to cooperate with an investigation.
