Newsmakers: John Zitzner, founder, The Entrepreneurship Preparatory School in Cleveland; Marshall Emerson III, the school’s director. Dozens of Cleveland school kids will hone their entrepreneurial skills at a new charter school to be opened in August. They’ll start as sixth-graders taking a course of intensive learning the founders hope will lead the kids to college and then success. The school’s founder earlier created E City, an after school program that teaches business and technology skills to children from low-income families.

Roundtable: Kevin O’Brien, columnist, the Plain Dealer; Joan Mazzolini, reporter, the Plain Dealer; Mike Roberts, free lance journalist.

Regional Slam-Dunk: The Cleveland Cavaliers have decided to build their new, palatial practice facility in Independence. Mayors of Cleveland and Independence huddled and agreed to share the taxes they’ll get from the team’s payroll rather than fight over which city should get the whole bundle. Is it a coincidence that the new location will be several miles closer to the home of superstar LeBron James?

West Wing Change: President Bush’s chief of staff, Andy Card, stepped down this week and was replaced by veteran Washington insider Joshua Bolten, formerly the director of the Office of Budget and Management. The appointment hinted at new attempts by the White House to court an increasingly rebellious Republican congressional majority.

Immigration Law: The House and the Senate each have their own ideas on how to stem the tide of illegal immigration, and it’s not clear when they’ll reach a compromise. Observers say concern over the effect passage of any immigration bill might have on the November election might stall the bill until after the election. Immigration policy touched off a nationwide string of demonstrations a week ago, including one here in Cleveland.

Digital TV: If you grew up watching black-and-white TV, you’ll remember the thrill of watching color TV for the first time. Millions of Americans are now getting the same kind of rush when they see digital high-definition TV. With a clearer picture and digital sound it’s revolutionizing America’s home viewing experience. But after 2009, digital TV becomes a rule, not an option. And those still receiving an over-the-air signal will have to buy a converter, a new TV... or a book.
