Newsmaker: Mark Ricchiuto, Cleveland Service Director. Cleveland city council approves the first group of intersections that will have cameras designed to catch red light runners or speeders. City hall says it’s about safety; critics say it’s all about the benjamins.

Roundtable panelists: Elizabeth Sullivan, foreign affairs writer for the Plain Dealer; Ned Whelan of Whelan Communications; ideastream’s Karen Schaefer.

No to Medical Marijuana: The US Supreme Court ruled states that allow use of marijuana for medical purposes must follow federal law that says marijuana is illegal, period. States that have medical marijuana programs must decide their next move.

State Money Scandal: It started out with revelations that the Bureau of Workers Compensation invested some of its money in rare coins. Then some of those coins went missing. Then came news that $215-million in BWC funds placed in another investment have evaporated. It’s a juicy scandal that has Republicans circling the wagons and Democrats dancing in the aisles at the Statehouse.

General Motors Downsizing: GM announces it’s planning to eliminate 25-thousand jobs nationwide in hopes of cutting costs enough to return to profitability. The announcement sends ripples through the work force in NE Ohio because it’s a big presence here.

Judge Confirmed: The U.S. Senate ends a two-year standoff and okays the nomination of Judge Janice Rogers Brown to a seat on the D.C. federal appeals court. The job is seen as a significant step to a seat on the Supreme Court. With Brown’s confirmation out of the way, other Bush nominees are expected to be approved soon.
