WVIZ/PBS ideastream®: Ideas

Ideas is a series of special one-hour programs produced and presented by WVIZ/PBS ideastream®. Topics for each episode are guided by ideastream’s “Listening Project,” a series of surveys, town hall meetings and other community-focused activities. Subjects such as education, the economy and jobs, the environment, economic development, civic affairs, and health and human services are prominently featured. Each Ideas episode also serves as the keystone for a compilation of related programming on 90.3 WCPN, WVIZ/PBS and content on ideastream websites. The goal of this program series is to focus audience attention on an issue or topic of broad community interest. These stories, segments, and entire programs are distinguished by their depth and quality of journalism and the creative storytelling ideastream audiences have come to expect and appreciate.

School Funding Amendment
We have more on the plan made public last week. Bill Phillis with the Coalition for Adequate School Funding joins us from Columbus - he is part of the larger group responsible for this proposal. Scott Stephens, education writer for The Plain Dealer, joins in the discussion. We'll also hear from a representative of the Buckeye Institute, a conservative think tank, on why this is a bad idea.
Kyle Maynard
Kyle Maynard is not your average scholar athlete. Kyle was a top wrestler at his high school... and also near the top of his class academically. Now he's a college freshman. Why talk with him? Kyle is an inspiration to anyone who ever had a challenge to overcome. Kyle was borne without elbows or knees - the result of a rare disorder. Kyle was at the Idea Center this week talking to high school students via an interactive distance learning event. Rick Jackson profiles this remarkable young man.
