WVIZ/PBS ideastream®: Ideas

Ideas is a series of special one-hour programs produced and presented by WVIZ/PBS ideastream®. Topics for each episode are guided by ideastream’s “Listening Project,” a series of surveys, town hall meetings and other community-focused activities. Subjects such as education, the economy and jobs, the environment, economic development, civic affairs, and health and human services are prominently featured. Each Ideas episode also serves as the keystone for a compilation of related programming on 90.3 WCPN, WVIZ/PBS and content on ideastream websites. The goal of this program series is to focus audience attention on an issue or topic of broad community interest. These stories, segments, and entire programs are distinguished by their depth and quality of journalism and the creative storytelling ideastream audiences have come to expect and appreciate.

Terry Pluto Interview
So what did lead to the dismantling of the powerhouse Cleveland Indians of the mid-90's? Terry Pluto joins us on ideas to talk about his new book - for which the baseball club allowed unprecedented access - giving fans a peek inside the inner workings of the American League Championship team of 1997 and beyond. Interested? Terry is also allowing Ideas to let you read an entire chapter of the new book, simply by clicking here. Enjoy!

Sustainable Idea Center
There is a reason why we call our new Playhouse Square home "Idea Center." It's a place where every day we create programs about ideas that give you a different look at Northeast Ohio, the nation and the world. But this building - this place where we work - is itself filled with big ideas about how buildings, and the organizations that occupy them, will do business in the future. The Idea Center is a high-performace workplace, based in part on the principals of sustainability. What does all that mean? We'll help explain.

Leaders Unite
Let's say you're bright, talented - poised to become the next local leader. If so, more than a few local organizations probably have your name. That's because up until now, Northeast Ohio has been scattered with a long list of disconnected leadership groups. Recently, a few of those of organizations decided if they merged, they could put a lot more muscle into their effort. Now, Leadership Cleveland, Bridge Builders, I-Cleveland and Look Up To Cleveland have ended their separate efforts and joined forces. They are now Leadership Cleveland. The Executive Director is Lee Friedman Hill, and she joins us this week.

East Cleveland Township Cemetery Refurbishment
Since the 1850s, some of the most famous people in Cleveland were buried in the East Cleveland Township Cemetery - including soldiers from every war America fought, from the Revolutionary War straight through to Vietnam. But over the years, it became neglected; forgotten. Now, a group of volunteers is not only refurbishing the 12 acres, but is going to take ownership as well. It's a story of honoring the past by working hard in the present.
