WVIZ/PBS ideastream®: Ideas

Ideas is a series of special one-hour programs produced and presented by WVIZ/PBS ideastream®. Topics for each episode are guided by ideastream’s “Listening Project,” a series of surveys, town hall meetings and other community-focused activities. Subjects such as education, the economy and jobs, the environment, economic development, civic affairs, and health and human services are prominently featured. Each Ideas episode also serves as the keystone for a compilation of related programming on 90.3 WCPN, WVIZ/PBS and content on ideastream websites. The goal of this program series is to focus audience attention on an issue or topic of broad community interest. These stories, segments, and entire programs are distinguished by their depth and quality of journalism and the creative storytelling ideastream audiences have come to expect and appreciate.

New Publisher at the PD
With the face of media changing daily, a new man at the helm of the Plain Dealer makes news himself. Fresh from St. Louis, Terry Egger is now the publisher of the 340,000 circulation paper. He's made news quickly - last week announcing potential buyouts of up to 370 editorial employees. This week, he sits down with Rick Jackson to talk about the future of his paper, the future of all papers, and media in general.
School Report Cards Out
This is the week school superintendents look for - and dread. Ohio's educational report cards are out, and many school systems in the region are celebrating better marks than in years past, while others are still trying to improve on somewhat dismal showings. We'll talk about the scores, how schools achieve them, and what teachers, administrators, and parents can do to help the students learn. The full results are here. Incidentally, the top school system of the 97 in this area? Solon. Last? The Cleveland Municipal District, though the score was improved over one year ago.
GOP nomination... in Cleveland?
History claims the road to the White House runs through Ohio. But could the next Republican presidential hopeful actually be nominated here in Cleveland? ideastream's Mark Urycki will drop by to tell us that Northeast Ohio is putting on the dog for a visit from the GOP site selection committee - on its way here in about a week!
