Ideas is a series of special one-hour programs produced and presented by WVIZ/PBS ideastream®. Topics for each episode are guided by ideastream’s “Listening Project,” a series of surveys, town hall meetings and other community-focused activities. Subjects such as education, the economy and jobs, the environment, economic development, civic affairs, and health and human services are prominently featured. Each Ideas episode also serves as the keystone for a compilation of related programming on 90.3 WCPN, WVIZ/PBS and content on ideastream websites. The goal of this program series is to focus audience attention on an issue or topic of broad community interest. These stories, segments, and entire programs are distinguished by their depth and quality of journalism and the creative storytelling ideastream audiences have come to expect and appreciate.

Making Sense of Place
The documentary film Making Sense of Place: Cleveland premieres this week on Ideas. Funded by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, Making Sense of Place explores how policy makers, community groups and other have wrestled with urban decay, the erosion of inner-ring suburbs and the explosive growth of outer suburbs. Following the 60-minute program will be a 30-minute examination of what Cleveland needs to do and what is being done right now to address the challenges outlined in the film. Guests include Hunter Morrison from Youngstown State University; Richard Fleming, president and chief executive of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association who talks about what his city did to overcome some of the same issues facing Cleveland; and a local developer who will discuss the risks and rewards that go along with investing hundreds of millions of dollars in downtown Cleveland. The film producers also plan a series of community viewing/discussion and we will have information about how you can become involved in those efforts.
