The short yet high profile term of Marc Dann as Attorney General is over. Dann resigned this week as part of the fallout over a sex scandal in his office. It was a ten day saga that started out scandalous, controversial and shocking, and turned stressful, chaotic and sad. This week, House Democrats filed nine articles of impeachment against Dann, but House Republicans pushed through a measure that allowed the Inspector General to immediately start investigating the AG’s office.

Behind the scenes, Dann was apparently trying to make a deal. But the next day, IG investigators moved in to the AG’s office, and a few hours later, Dann stood next to Gov. Strickland and announced his resignation.

Dann may be done, but the investigation into the activities in his office doesn’t end with his departure. Inspector General Tom Charles said his main goal is to restore full confidence in the attorney general’s office.

In other news, the Senate passed the crackdown on the payday lending industry, presumptive Republican nominee John McCain came back to Ohio for the second time this month, Gov. Strickland says he is not interested in being vice president for either Democratic candidate, and it cost $358,000 for 53 Ohio counties to provide paper ballots for the March 4 primary, but only about 1 percent of the 880,000 printed were used.

The state is hoping high gas prices will convince Midwesterners to consider a vacation close to home – in Ohio. The state’s tourism department is launching a $2.5 million campaign to send the message that there’s too much to do in Ohio to stay for just one day, targeting potential visitors in neighboring states. The campaign features ads with Columbus Zoo Emeritus Jack Hanna and Cincinnati Reds baseball star Ken Griffey, Jr.
