The State of Ohio is a weekly news program spotlighting the latest happenings at the Statehouse, in the Governor’s office, at the Ohio Supreme Court and throughout the Buckeye State. Award-winning host Karen Kasler presents viewers with unique analysis and thoughtful perspective on important issues of statewide interest through interviews with political leaders, newsmakers, experts and Ohio citizens. The State of Ohio is the only TV show to bring to Ohioans the latest news about taxes, voting, education and other critical matters from where it all happens -- Capitol Square.

For the first time, there are more than 50,000 inmates in Ohio’s prisons system. A new law targeting sex offenders and child abusers who make their way into Ohio’s classrooms is now in place. A driver’s license is no longer just proof that the bearer has passed a road test - for many decades, it’s been a critical component of proving identity. Linda Wuestenberg is working to help create a database of contact information for family members after her son Steve Burge was killed in a car crash in February. And Tom Hunter from the Ohio Department of Public Safety explains how it will work, and gives an update on the status of the Real ID program. Workforce development experts are now urging companies to consider encouraging older employees to stay on longer, and to think about hiring older workers who aren’t ready to retire to replace those who are. Barbara Riley, the director of the Ohio Department of Aging, talks about the issue. We leave you with highlights of this year’s holiday tree lighting and reception at the Statehouse.
