WVIZ/PBS ideastream®: The State of Ohio

The State of Ohio is a weekly news program spotlighting the latest happenings at the Statehouse, in the Governor’s office, at the Ohio Supreme Court and throughout the Buckeye State. Award-winning host Karen Kasler presents viewers with unique analysis and thoughtful perspective on important issues of statewide interest through interviews with political leaders, newsmakers, experts and Ohio citizens. The State of Ohio is the only TV show to bring to Ohioans the latest news about taxes, voting, education and other critical matters from where it all happens -- Capitol Square.

This may be the last weekend that electronic gambling machines can operate in bars, storefront parlors and racetracks. There is no official moratorium on executions in Ohio. But the governor has said there is basically an unofficial one, because of two key issues. Terry Collins is the director of the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, and he talks about how all this affects activities at the Lucasville prison, where executions are held. Consumer complaint lines are open again at the Ohio Consumers Counsel. The Ohio Consumers Counsel, Janine Migden Ostrander, explains why. And finally, there’s a new way to tour one of the state’s oldest and most historic buildings – the Statehouse – via a new website and through a cell phone. Gregg Dodd with the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board says technology is now helping to tell stories from the past.
