Voter ID is once again in the sights of elections activists. Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has joined a handful of her counterparts in other states in challenging Indiana's Voter ID law. Meanwhile, a yearlong analysis of election systems in five Midwestern states found Ohio in the worst shape. The only Ohioan running for president says he’s also running for re-election to Congress. The decision from Cleveland-area representative Dennis Kucinich keeps him off the ballot as a presidential candidate in Ohio. A new requirement that small businesses offer at least 12 weeks of unpaid pregnancy and maternity leave is now on hold for at least a trimester. And the flap over that policy has cost Barbara Sykes, the interim head of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, the support of Gov. Strickland, who appointed her to that post. There have been 23 teachers’ strikes in the last seven years. And now Sen. John Carey (R-Wellston) wants to ban teacher strikes in Ohio. Another school-related bill will ban corporal punishment, though it’s permitted in only 17 of Ohio’s 612 school districts. There have been at least six bills proposed in the General Assembly this year that deal with the often controversial issue of abortion. And a recent poll from the Pew Center for the People and the Press shows only 40 percent of voters say abortion is very important in their decision. Denise Makura from Ohio Right to Life and Kellie Copeland with NARAL Pro Choice Ohio talk about abortion and politics in Ohio. And we check in with cardiologist Dr. Terry Gordon of Akron, who pushed the legislature to buy automated external defibrillators – AEDs – for every school in Ohio. Now he’s taking his campaign nationwide.
