Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive
“All of us, at some time or other, need help. Whether we’re giving or receiving a sweater, each one of us has something valuable to bring to this world. That’s one of the things that connects us as neighbors – in our own way, everyone is a giver and a receiver.”—Fred Rogers
Attention School Parent Organizations!
In honor of the Fred Rogers Legacy your school is invited to participate in the 2008 WVIZ/PBS Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive during the month of December.
We are asking all elementary school parent groups in our viewing area to help a neighbor keep warm this winter by collecting new or gently worn sweaters at your school. Sweaters will be donated to local charities of your choice.
This is a chance to help represent the gentle spirit, warmth and nurturing of your neighborhood. The sweater drive is a tribute to Mister Rogers’ example of being a good neighbor. The gift of a sweater would mean needed comfort to those who can’t afford them and need them to keep warm.
Responsibilities to Parent Groups:
* Choose a charity (If you cannot decide on a charity, a list will be provided).
* Pass out provided flyers and reminders for each child to take home
* Hang provided posters throughout the school to remind children & families.
* Collect and transport sweaters to charity.
* Pass out provided “Certificates of Appreciation” to each child that donated.
Participating schools will receive recognition online!
School that collects the most sweaters receives a Pizza Party for participating students!
