A Community Action Plan is a strategy used by a group to change or modify the mind set of a target group of people. Most community actions are used in communities to change a target groups' opinion or behavior concerning environmental issues.

Let’s say that you would like to encourage your family (the target group) to conserve electricity in your home (an environmental issue).

Here are the steps you would take:
Step 1 Research information about the environmental issue that you would like to bring to the attention of your target group.

Research the average amount of electricity used in your household per month.

Step 2 Design a Plan of Action. How are you going to encourage your family to conserve energy? What would you like to see them do differently? How long do you want them to engage in that behavior? How are you going to motivate them to follow along with that plan?

Let’s say that you would like your family to turn off lights and appliances in rooms that are not being used at that time. You would like to encourage this behavior for one month or the next billing cycle, so you post signs next to every light switch and/or appliance that is used in your home. You have sign(s) posted on the refrigerator or the family common area.
