Hi.
Dewey here again. You wouldn't know it to look at me, but
I've been around for a very LONG time! Like all water, I have
been recycled over and over in what is called the "Hydrologic
Cycle". That is why it is so important to
make sure that my friends and I are kept as clean as possible.
Read on to find out how you can discover how clean the water
is near you! |

Water
Monitoring can test for many different things depending
on the information one is looking for. When the Environmental
Protection Agency,or EPA,
is testing water they are looking at the same basic things
you will be testing for. |

Water Monitoring has been going on for a long time. |
This testing collects data
that is used to determine if the water in a river, lake,
or stream is good or bad. Good water helps everything in
a water source to live.

The
food
chain is working. Plants are growing, fish are
eating the plants, and eventually predators eat the fish.
When water quality is bad, the food chain is messed up. Plants
may grow but there may be too many, or not the right kind
for the fish and insects to use as food. |
|
So,
what happens if there is a problem? To find out what happens
to the food chain when the pH level of a water source increases,
follow the link and play "Acid
Lake". |
