  • Interactive Video Distance Learning Pilot

    The Interactive Video Distance Learning Pilot program seeks to bring new resources to Ohio public school classrooms through the use of interactive technology. The Pilot will provide funding to participating schools to: build models of interactive video distance learning that can be studied, modified, and replicated; pilot an Asynchronous Transmission Mode network for voice, video and data transmission; and enhance teaching and student learning through professional development and content resources.     Telecommunity

    eTech OHIO Telecommunity provides Ohio public school students access to information, experiences and programs that only a few years ago were miles away and inaccessible. The program provides grants to expand the use of distance learning technologies in the classroom. Telecommunity grants fund professional development, equipment purchases, payment of usage charges and content development for public schools, grades K-12, and state-chartered private and parochial schools.     Telecourses

    Televised courses may be taken for college credit; qualified high school students may take credit courses now and "bank" the credit for college. Telecourses can also be used for post secondary option during high school. Click here for more information.

    Video on Demand

    Video-On-Demand (VOD) technology allows students to actively engage in creating, planning, processing, and producing of video learning modules. Students digitize and store productions on the video cache for customized instruction. To monitor student achievement, a pre and post test accompany each video learning modules. This VOD technology can be used by a classroom teacher to introduce, reinforce, and reteach proficiency learning outcomes. WVIZ/PBS has established a partnership with Lorain City Schools to provide select videos pertaining to specific proficiency learning objectives. Click here to learn more.

    Northern Ohio Technology Association (NOTA)

    The Northern Ohio Technology Association (NOTA) is a state of the art interactive video network which uses fiber optic technology to link thirteen schools, three colleges and WVIZ/PBS. This technology provides member schools in the Greater Cleveland area the opportunity to literally work together in a real-time interactive video environment. Students at multiple sites can simultaneously see and speak to one another over the fiber network.

    Benefits to students
    • Expanded educational opportunities in schools throughout the network and beyond. Live interaction with classes and teachers from other schools.
    • Collaborative learning enabling students to take classes not offered in their home schools.
    • Experience diversity in culture and curriculum by connections with other content providers such as Museums.
    • Zoos, Foreign countries, Libraries, Cultural Institutions and others.
    • Participation of colleges allows students to take post-secondary option courses.
    • Participation of WVIZ/PBS brings satellite programs from NASA, from sites around the country, and from its own NOTA classroom.
    • Students with special needs can participate without the need to travel and can work with a variety of classes from other schools.
