1. Voters in New Hampshire hit the polls yesterday and the winners are Hillary Clinton for the Democratic ticket and John McCain for the Republicans. Primary elections and caucuses are not the actual presidential election. That won’t be until November. The primary elections help to narrow down the field of candidates and find out what different segments of the American public are thinking. Ohio voters go to the polls for their primary on March 4th. There are currently fourteen candidates campaigning for President.

2. Have you ever heard Benjamin Franklin’s quote, “A penny saved is a penny earned?” Brett Alles tells us about students in Colorado who are adding things up, one penny at a time. Millions of pennies collected by Denver area students are producing thousands of dollars that will go to the children’s favorite charities.

3. Mallika Kapur takes us to India and shows us how American dollars are holding less value in that country. American visitors to India used to be able to use their dollars for tickets to tourist attractions like the Taj Mahal, but now they are required to use Indian currency, rupees.

4. Ohio State University hoped to avenge last year's loss in the BCS national championship game, taking on the Louisiana State University Tigers this week, almost in their own back yard at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. The Buckeyes got off to a great start in the "Big Easy" when "Beanie" Wells ran sixty five yards for a touchdown. But then the Tigers took charge, and LSU beat the Buckeyes by a score of thirty-eight to twenty-four.

5. You can help the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife to count noses - or beaks - during the next few days. State biologists are counting bald and golden eagles. If you see any between now and January 15, make a call to the Crane Creek Wildlife Research Station at 419-898-0960. The mid-winter survey is conducted every January as part of a nationwide tally.

6. A PHI Medical Transport helicopter was taking off before dawn on New Year's Day from the helipad on top of University Hospital in Cincinnati when it got tangled up in a safety fence. The only way off the top of the building was with the help of a crane. Last Friday, crane handlers steadied and turned the chopper before setting it down gently on the ground.

7. The Wall Street Journal reports that 14,000 McDonald’s restaurants will employ baristas -  people who make fancy coffee drinks – as McDonald’s and Starbucks compete for business. McDonald’s is adding upscale coffee options and Starbucks has already added items like breakfast sandwiches and drive-thrus.

8. Judy Fortin tells us about middle school students who are learning some life-long skills that will help with any New Year’s resolutions to stay fit. They’re learning the proper techniques for strength training – not to be confused with weight lifting or body building.

10. The state of Ohio is well-known for manufacturing, or making things.  From steel to tires, we have deep roots in what we make. Dan Poletta gives us a look at something else manufactured here, something that brings enjoyment to people all over the world. We visit Conn-Selmer, Inc., a manufacturer of musical instruments in Eastlake, Ohio and learn how they make French horns.
