What
is podcasting?
Podcasting makes a video file, typically an MPEG-4 file,
available online for downloading via an automatic "feed." You can then
see the podcast whenever you want from your computer or a portable media
player.
What do I need
to hear podcasts?
The first thing you need is podcast subscription software. One
option is the latest version of Apple's iTunes (which has the
software built in) to manage your podcast subscriptions. At this point,
you will already be able to watch podcast video from your computer (provided
your computer has the necessary software to play MPEG-4 video files such
as Quicktime Player or Windows Media Player). If you want to also make
your podcasts portable, you will need to transfer them from your computer
to a portable media device.
How do I subscribe
to a podcast?
To subscribe to any podcast(s) listed above, right-click on the
"Pod" graphic or link (or Control-click in MacOS) and select "Copy Link
Location" or "Copy Shortcut." You may then paste the link into your podcasting
software.
How do I unsubscribe
to a podcast?
If you wish to unsubscribe to a podcast, please be sure to delete
the entire feed entry (not just the individual audio editions) in your
subscription management software. If you no longer regularly listen to
a particular podcast, clearing that feed helps us contain costs associated
with our podcasting service.

Why don't I hear anything?
First, be sure that you have video player software; then, verify
that the correct video file was downloaded to your computer. You may need
to modify the update settings in your podcasting software to ensure that
this process occurs automatically. Next, check the update times in the
description and make sure that a new edition should have been posted.
If a videofile is not present and the feed time has passed, please contact us.
I don't want to subscribe
to the podcast - how do I hear the audio or see the video?
No problem! From the Teacher's Space page, click on the "stream
entire show" which will play the file from the NewsDepth website
or "download entire show" which will download am
MPEG-4 file of the show to your computer directly from the podcast feed
page without using a podcast subscription program
or service. WVIZ/PBS
