Workshops
WVIZ/PBS's Educational Services Department provides a wide array of Professional Development workshops for educators in over 126 school districts in an eleven county area in Northeast Ohio. WVIZ/PBS technology workshops and services can be tailored to a district's individual needs and can be done in the labs of WVIZ/PBS, in your school district, or via Distance Learning. We have exceptional facilitators who can provide training in technology and its integration into the curriculum. Our Professional Development workshops cater to a range of technology abilities from the novice to the scholar and focus on many different learning and teaching styles. WVIZ/PBS provides the availability of graduate credit for workshops that meet university requirements.
Online Learning
WVIZ/PBS Educational Services provides educators needed professional development opportunities in accessible online format that makes learning fun, flexible and collaborative. Our online courses are available for graduate credit from area universities. PBS TeacherLine is the premiere provider for our online professional development with more than 130 graduate level facilitated, courses that span the entire curriculum: Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, Instructional Technology, Instructional Strategies, and Science. As a program funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, PBS TeacherLine is committed to helping educators acquire the skills they need to become - and stay - the highly qualified teachers needed to prepare students for a successful future.
Early Childhood
Our Early Childhood program is dedicated to improving the school readiness and educational success of young children through the use of public broadcasting and workshops for parents, childcare providers and early childhood professionals. We provide on air, online and print resources that assist parents and early childhood educators to prepare children for school success. Annually, WVIZ/PBS conducts numerous hands-on professional development workshops where participants receive free educational materials and resources including the Ohio Department of Education’s Early Learning Contents Standards and the Ohio Infant Toddler Guidelines. Additionally, each year hundreds of books are distributed to children that would not normally have books to call their own. Funding for the Early Childhood outreach department comes from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Child Care Bureau, The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, BP and KCET A Place of Our Own/Los Ninos en Su Casa.
Distance Learning/NOTA
As an Educational Technology Agency, WVIZ/PBS provides quality distance learning services to schools in Northeast Ohio and across the state. This service coordinates the new IP technology in interactive distance learning applications. Through its Distance Learning Department, WVIZ/PBS has attempted to provide the best distance learning programs for students and the best possible technical and professional development opportunities for teachers.
