Retired Race Horse Lukas Can Count and Spell

Sixteen-year-old Lukas spells out his name by touching his nose to lettered blocks. He counts to five too. Using carrots, patience and lots of love, Karen Murdock has taught Lukas for 6 years. When she first bought him he wasn't always open to learning how to play catch or peek-a-boo. Lukas was born to be a race horse, but that job didn't suit the thoroughbred. At 2-years-old he was retired from racing. Eight years later Murdock met her match. Lukas was recently asked to be the spokes-horse for a thoroughbred retirement organization.

WOW! Lukas is so cool! I would think a horse could be that smart! Having six years to teach Lukas must be an amazing experience. I don’t know about you, but Lukas looks like he could be the world’s smartest horse! I can’t BELIEVE that he can spell his name with letter blocks by touching them with his nose and count to five at sixteen years old! The owner must be so proud! I wish that he could visit us at our school because it would be bizarre! He is an extraordinary horse! I really would like to see him play catch again because that was a mind-blowing moment! It was so funny when we saw him do peek-a-boo with his owner! I’m going to share this with loads of people. Well, I can’t wait to see next weeks show!!

Hi, my name is Aubrey Zunk, I go to Neff Elementary and I’m 11 years old.I was really interested in the horse story,that was so cool!I can’t believe that a horse can spell and count!I don’t even think a dog can do that.Can’t wait till next weeks news!

From Appaloosa to Zhemaichu, every horse is unique. However, I was quite impressed by last week’s story regarding a catching and counting horse, who also saddles up to spell his own name and identify shapes. I admire the patience and commitment offered to Lukas by his trainer, that eventually caused him to become the “World’s Smartest Horse.” Although, I do believe that he and Karen Murdock will need to jump several fences before Lukas learns to add and subtract!
I like this story because it told you so much about Lukas being able to spell, count and play peek-a-boo at his age, it helps too, that I like horses.

I really liked Lukas.He is incredible!I cant beleve he can count and spell!Karen Murdock is very good at traning him.Im rooting for Karen and Lukas. I hope Lukas learns to add and subtract.I think he really is the smartest horse in the world.
