Regional News Stories: Wednesday, September 17, 2003
The facts do seem gloomy these days-a weak economy, high unemployment rates and few new jobs available. But that's only looking at half the picture. Over the past 30 years, a new wave of entrepreneurs is finally surfacing with enough influence to boost an otherwise slumping economy. As part of Making Change: Reinventing our Economy, ideastream's Shula Neuman reports.

Making Change: Making Change through Technology Transfer
Regional News Stories: Wednesday, August 20, 2003
The area's business leaders believe a new convention center could be the catalyst to economic growth for the region. However, there are others who believe we should be paying more attention and energy encouraging "technology transfer." Tech transfer capitalizes on the region's strengths by taking all that research from places like Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Clinic and finding commercial applications. As part of Making Change: Reinventing our Economy, ideastream's Shula Neuman sheds some light on the economic potential for technology transfer in the region.

Making Change: Technology Grants

Northeast Ohio pulled in a hefty chunk of change this month from Governor Taft's Third Frontier project-a plan to invest a total of 1-point-6 billion dollars in biotech and high-tech research over the next decade. Seventy four-million dollars was available for this year's grants... and Northeast Ohio got more than half. The goal of pouring all this money into research is to create high-paying jobs and to leverage the grants to bring in more money from other sources. As part of Making Change: Reinventing Our Economy, ideastream's Shula Neuman looks at what these grants are promising.

Making Change: Workplace for your Lifestyle

No word yet on how many jobs may be lost in the Office Max sale to Boise... The sale of the office supply chain is pending, and so is the possibility that northeast Ohio may be facing additional brain drain. But it doesn't necessarily take a Fortune 500 company to plug the leak. Large and small companies that appeal to the younger-set may help fill the void. As part of Making Change: Reinventing our Economy, ideastream's Shula Neuman reports on a management trend that makes work a lot more fun, profitable and appealing to the twenty-something worker.

At the time you might not have cared, but now you know better, right? Well, just like a person, a region's image makes a difference. Good morning, I'm Shula Neuman and today we bring you Image Matters, a special call-in show as part of Making Change: Reinventing our Economy. We're going to explore the impact our image is having on our economy and what that image means in the civic decisions we face. We hope you'll call in or e-mail to participate in the discussion as Making Change delves into how Image Matters.
