"History Notes: The Music of Washington’s World" explores music as a reflection of history and culture during the life of George Washington. Highlights include Pre-Revolutionary War music that reflects the Colonist’s attitudes under the British monarchy, Revolutionary War songs that tell of specific battles, plantation music that Washington would have heard on the farm, and ballroom dance music that allowed the early politicians to gather to discuss the newly forming government as well as socialize. Throughout the program, we’ll examine the role music played in George Washington’s life and look at how that role is both similar to and different from the role music plays in our lives.
