NEWSVIEWS 11-19-09

Ike Mitchell, Wyoming Middle School: I really like the story of the two orphan red pandas. I wish they weren't endangered. I would like to have one as a pet, but that won't happen. I kind of feel bad for them because they got rejected by their parents.

Claire Miller, St. Jude School: I think the Red Pandas at the Cleveland Zoo were very cute. Over the summer, my friend and I went to the Zoo and saw some Red Pandas. We even got to take a ride on a camel. That was one bumpy ride!

Brittany Reasar, St. Jude School: I think it was interesting on how people can go and chip off pieces of the Berlin Wall. I never knew that before. My class is doing projects on different walls, right now in class. We are making them with tissue boxes.

Julia M., Morton Elementary: I thought the bug race was sooo freaky and cool! I never knew bugs could run that fast. My teacher wouldn’t go there. She doesn’t like bugs. Neither do I. I thought bugs were slow.

Caitlin Sauvey, Midview West Elementary: Hi! My name is Caitlin Sauvey! I love horses and they are very friendly! My friend Mary loves horses too. If I was a horse, I would go crazy. But if I was a horse and they put hot horse shoes on me I would go crazier!

Patty Blood, E.H. Greene School: The fall of the Wall of Berlin ways an amazing part of our history. It must have taken so long to break it down. The ceremony they had was outstanding. The giant dominos were beautiful.

Ethan Davis, Cassingham Elementary: I loved the bug race! It was so funny when they tried to run away! But I’m also wondering what happens if the bug wins. Will they get a prize or something? And what kind of bugs were they?

Zoe Schlosser, E.H. Greene Intermediate: I found the bug race REALLY interesting, who knew people trained bugs for a race. It was really creepy though, to think these bugs were crawling around on the floor everywhere. I think it would be a good experience to see a bug race though, you definitely don't see that often. Though, I do give it to the people who train their bugs, I can't imagine how hard that might be!

Owen Pubal, St. Jude School, Elyria, OH: I'm really glad that our shoes don't get burned and nailed on like horse shoes do! That would be a good job for someone who is interested in horses. You would have good job security! It does look kind of dangerous working with the hot metal, and what would happen if the horse got mad at you? They should feed the horses apples and carrots to keep them happy while they get their new shoes! Thanks for the story!

Christina Becker, RC Lindsey Elementary: I enjoyed this week's show about putting shoes on a horse .It would hurt to put nails horse shoes on my feet, but I know it does not hurt the horse. When I grow up I want to be like that. But I want someone else to get the shoes out of the fire. I would burn my face off.

Emily Witt, St. Jude School: I never really thought about how the horses got horse shoes! I think it was a neat process and a fun job. At least the heat does not hurt the horse. I am glad that we can wear tennis shoes!

Rachel Leffel, New Knoxville School: It's amazing to see how much work goes into making horseshoes and putting them on. I would never like to do that job. It looks like it really hurts the horses' foot, but good thing it doesn't. I would never let anybody put horseshoes on my feet.

Hi, My name is Jakob Hwang. I am in 4th grade at St. Peter School in North Ridgeville, OH. I was so excited to see your story on the new red pandas at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. We are Zoo members and we received the newsletter the same day I saw your story. My parents said if you read my letter on next weeks show they will take me next weekend to see the red pandas. I can't wait to see them because they look so awesome! Thanks Newsdepth.

Marcus Nitschke, New Knoxville School: WOW! It was AMAZING to see all of those "dominoes" fall. I didn't know there used to be a wall splitting Germany in half! I asked my grandpa about it and he told me the wall was torn down ten years before I was born. I bet when the wall was torn down everyone was really excited . I know I would be!

Jaden Foster, Fenn Elementary: That horse story was cool! I was so glad when you told us that it did not hurt the horses. I never knew you had to nail the shoes on the horses. I always thought that they are like the shoes you and I put on. Can you do another story about horses?

Caitlin Rheaume, Olmsted Falls Intermediate School: I liked the story about how the Vietnam Veterans were honored in Shelby, Ohio. I wonder if my cousin Hayley was there. It is nice to hear about how America honors fallen and living veterans. It touches me every time I hear about something like this because I have twelve or so veterans in my family.

Nicole Neri, St. Jude School: I think it was really cool to see how many people had some pieces of the Berlin wall. The people at least have something to remember it by and tell their grandchildren. That story was truly remarkable! I think at every museum they should have at least a little bit of the wall on display and describe what happened and why they have it; or maybe a movie to show the Berlin wall when it was just barbed wire and then show them putting concrete over it.

Keifer Pruitt, Heritage Elementary: Wow! Those bugs looked like they were going 5 mph. What speed where they going? I thought it was funny when the bug looked like it died. I want to do the international bug race.

Zachary Horvath, St. Jude School: I thought it was SO cool how they made styrofoam dominoes and knocked them over where the Berlin Wall once stood! I wonder if it was hard to set up the dominoes. I know that I have trouble setting up my dominoes at home. I mean one and a quarter miles, that’s a lot of dominoes! I wish I could've seen it. It would be real cool.

Dylan Kubilus, Valley View Elementary: I loved the bug race. I’d like to start my own bug race, but I would need a lot of bugs. I wonder how they trained the bugs to race?

Collin McKenzie, St. Mary Chardon: Those red pandas were so cute! I just can’t believe Mei Mei got rejected from her very own mother. If I got rejected from my mother I would be hopeless. I would love to see Rohan and Mei Mei at the Cleveland Zoo.

Hi I’m Olivia Rohrbacher and I’m from Meadowlawn School in Sandusky, Ohio I think it is really cool that those were actual styrofoam dominoes. They were huge!! I think it would be so much fun to sculpt one of those.

Muriel B., Wyoming Middle School: I thought the little red panda story was so cute! But, it was so sad that they were endangered. I wish I could have a red panda! I wonder how they got endangered. I really want to see the video of the pandas online. I can't wait!

Elizabeth, St. Jude School: I really enjoyed this week’s show. I thought it was interesting when you talked about the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Berlin Wall falling. I think it was so cool when the dominoes fell. I can't believe the number of people that were celebrating that day. If I were there when the wall was up, I would have wanted to escape to the other side for freedom. Also, I couldn't even image how much work it would have been to chip off bits of the wall piece by piece. I really enjoyed the show!

Cassandra, Applewood Elementary: It was really nice of them to throw a celebration parade, so the veterans can be respected for once. My great grandpa was in that war but he never got the respect like that, poor guy.

Bailee Jetton, Meadowlawn Elementary: The Berlin Wall must have been huge if they built it to keep people from crossing to the other side of Germany. I don't understand why they would even try to keep people in. That's amazing how many people joined together to take it apart. I think that everybody who has a piece of the wall must be lucky because it's a part of history.

Hannah Davis, Miami East Junior High: I liked and disliked the story on the bug race. I don't like bugs, especially spiders. My dogs like to eat bugs or flies. Although, I think it is a cool fact that a cockroach can live up to three weeks without its head.

Mikaela Phillips, Huntington Elementary: Wow! That bug race was cool! How do bugs learn to go on the right line? I would be worried they would get squished!

Brianna Bradley at Midview West Elementary: I think that breaking down the wall was pretty helpful. I wish I could have helped, not just to get a piece of the wall, but to help the people. To the people that were trapped on the wall were probably happy when the wall got torn down. The people that got the wall are very lucky to have a piece. When I watched that, I thought that it was great to tear down the wall.

Syed Jafri, Center Elementary: I was surprised that there was one female red panda cub named Mei Mei that was REJECTED by her mother. I feel really bad for Mei Mei. I was also surprised when Rohan another red panda bear from the Washington D.C. National Zoo's mother wasn't there for him so he had to be raised by zookeepers in Ohio. After I saw the video of them together it looked like they were fighting but they were actually playing. I feel happy and sad for them because they lost their mom which was sad and that they met each other which was good.

Haya Akbik E.H. Greene Intermediate School Mr. Kelly's Social Studies Class: That bug race was so cool and wierd! I would be so freaked out if all types of bugs were crawling around. I don't really like bugs. I would be tip-toeing around because I don't want to step on a bug. They never did anything to me. Except creep me out..... that doesn't count though. The Berlin Wall anniversary. I loved watching the styrofoam dominos fall one by one. That wall went a long way! What was it, like 103 miles long? I want a piece from the Berlin Wall! If I did, it would feel like I was there. Plus, the rocks/pieces look so cool! Wow some amazing wall!

Sharon Brickey, Montrose Elementary: I think being a ferry would be a cool job! I love horses and their feet are HUGE! Once I went to a horse ranch sleep-away camp for a whole week. if I were a horse and I was getting horseshoes I would be scared. It looks like it hurts, but it doesn't hurt ... for the horses.

Ashley Watson, St. Jude School: I thought it was so cool that you did an article on the Berlin Wall since I'm doing research on it in school right now. You gave me some great ideas about what to write about. I like how the tearing down of the wall became a symbol of freedom.

Lana Bizet, New Knoxville School: I think the farrier is cool. I never knew that is a century old job. That is so interesting that it doesn’t bother the horse. That would really bother a human. If I were a horse I would hate it.

Hannah Moskowitz, Greene Intermediate: The tribute in Shelby, Ohio I think is was kind. Yes, when those veterans came home before they didn't get parades or anything like people do now but paying up for it later like all the people in Shelby did I think meant a lot to the veterans. And I'm sure they enjoyed the parades but the words "thank you" probably meant the most. We all truly appreciate our veterans.

Ashley Scott, New Knoxville: I WOULD LOVE to working with horses! When I would have to nail the horse shoes in it would scare me. I would think I was hurting it!! It would be scary if the horse would move and hurt you. IMAGINE how hot it is standing by the VERY HOT stove. I bet it is so hot it could kill you. KNOW THAT IS SCARY!!!!!!!!! I love working with horses!!!!!!

Rachel Bode, Valley View Elementary: Those dominoes were huge! Since they were made from Styrofoam, wouldn’t they blow away? My friend and I tried making a long domino line but it turned out like a HUGE city! We used every domino we could find in our houses! If I had the Styrofoam dominoes I would build my own house out of them.

Inanna Castor, Brook Elementary: I really liked when you showed how people actually trained bugs to race. I didn't even know you could train bugs until I saw this week’s episode! Even though it sounds fun I would not want to work with ANY kind of bug, even if it was cute, especially spiders!

Rachel Hawkins, New Knoxville School: I really liked the bug race. It is weird that all the other girls in my class thought it was gross. I thought it is cool to see bugs race. I wonder how they train their bugs.

Mariah Wittmer, Meadowlawn Intermediate School: I thought the story about the bug racing was very cool! It’s also something I've never heard of. It's cool that the bugs actually race! I think it would be heard to train a bug because of its size and you can't talk to a bug. Over all I think it's a very unique and neat thing to do.

Nolan Corcoran, St. Peter School: I really liked the story about horse shoeing. It is so cool how the shoe is heated, shaped and then nailed onto the horse's hoof. I can't believe that this is a job that has been around for thousands of years and is still happening the same way today!

Spencer Dillinger, Huntington Elementary: It's amazing that in Germany, they built a wall making East and West Berlin. I was surprised that people were allowed to chip pieces off the wall and save it in libraries, schools and museums. I wish I could have been there.

Ashley Borrageiro, New Vienna Elementary: I thought the bug race was cool! I have tons of bugs at my house. I think it might be a little hard to train them. I saw a huge bug once...man was it fast!

Caitlyn Kuron, Fairfield Elementary: WOW! That was so cool how they were chipping the wall. I was amazed that there was graffiti on the other side. Also how big and long it was. WOW!

Andrew Glasberg: I am a big fan. I think your show is great. I look forward to watching every Thursday. I think the segment on the horse shoes was pretty cool. It was very cool how the guy made a sheet of metal into a horse shoe. I’m a sixth grader from Watterson-Lake School in Cleveland and I love your show.

Thomas Gillespie, St. Peter School: I thought it was sad how the panda cub was rejected by its mom. If my mom did that to me I would never speak to her again. Just kidding. I love my mom. I’m sure everyone else in the world loves their moms too.

Kiersten, Northwood School: The wall must have been huge. My teacher has a fragment of the wall. It is a few inches long. I should ask my mom for a piece of the wall. If I was trapped on one side of the wall and wanted to get on the other side, I would do that too.

William Bartholic, St. Rose School: Man, I can’t believe that a bug can race! I love bugs. Once, a car smashed a praying mantis, but it was still alive! When I’m older I might make a bug circus or make a transformer that looks like a bug and is small. Again, I’m going to say this – I LOVE BUGS!

Hailey Smith, Olmsted Falls Intermediate: My favorite is the little red pandas find friendship at the Cleveland Zoo because the pandas became friends when they first saw each other. I love that they are different. They face is so cute – I love them. Now I have a favorite animal.

Max Freiberg, Chagrin Falls Intermediate: My favorite part of this week’s NewsDepth was when they put the horse shoes on the horses. Why does it hurt us but it doesn’t hurt the horses? It just seems like it would hurt them because they nail it on their feet. I wish I could go to Georgia and meet that horse someday.

Andrew Davidson, Chagrin Falls Intermediate: I liked the part in this week’s episode about the bug races. I wonder who won the races. I wonder where the finish line is. I would like to do that someday. I think bugs are cool!

Kendrick Sartor, Clovernook Elementary: I am writing about the bug race that was UNBELIEVABLE. How could they train their bug to do that? I would be SCARED out of my mind if I was there. I felt bad for that little girl. Do they get money for winning? If I was in it I would train all night to win. Do they travel to different states and schools like Clovernook? If they do, I would bring my spider Sam.

Tamya Birch, Clovernook Elementary: The story about the farriers was awesome! I don’t know how the horses can take so much heat pressure on their hooves. I also would like to know how you can be a farrier. You must have to get straight As in farrier school.

Damian Clason, Northwood School: I think Shelby, Ohio did a good thing honoring the veterans. I thank the veterans for all they do to keep this country safe. When I grow up I want to be a pilot in the Air Force. If I’m good enough maybe I’ll get a medal. I hear that you have to be in flight school for 40 hours. Is that true?

Kayla Slife, Northwood School: I thought the story about the red pandas was really cool. I love pandas. They are one of my favorite animals. They are so cute. They looked like they were having a lot of fun.

Drew Kleinman, B.L. Miller Elementary: That is so awesome! I can’t believe they race bugs! I wonder what would happen if a bug got squished or stepped on. If I were a bug, I would not want to have to train and be in a little jar. That would be like a human in the Olympics except there would be no little jar.

Mayzi Stella, B.L. Miller: I liked the bug race. Maybe I can join next year. Maybe our class can have one. It would be fun. I would use cockroach, but I can never find any.
