NEWSVIEWS 3-18-10

Julianna Morgan from Eliza Northrop Elementary School: I liked the story on the alligators. Those people got so close to them! I saw an alligator once, but I was way too scared to go that close! I would like to go to Florida and see those alligators, but maybe not get so close!

Austin from Kitty Hawk Elementary: I thought the alligators were cool! I would not go near the alligators. That lady would not go near the alligators when the man was with her. If I was there, I would have had an exit plan, like using my gocart.

Jenna from Kitty Hawk Elementary: I thought the ugly dog contest was hilarious! I thought that the dog with no teeth and no hair had to be the ugliest. I wish I had a dog, but not an ugly one. If I had a dog that I wanted to be in the quiet contest, it would probably be a beagle.

Mrs. Stanczak's third Grade Class at Falls-Lenox Primary School was the first to write in with the definition of mugient. They wrote: “We know the definition of mugient! It means a bellowing, especially like cattle. Did we get it right? We looked on the Internet for the definition. We found a website that gave the meanings for difficult words.”

Jordan from Applewood Elementary: I liked the boy that wanted a donation for dogs for his birthday instead of birthday presents. I LOVE dogs. I will do the same thing for my next birthday. That boy is so generous!

Simon Hill, Clovernook Elementary: The story about the alligators was scary and awesome at the same time. My teacher had his mouth wide open. I’ve been to Florida before but I’ve never seen that many before. I’m glad they didn’t eat the people. Then they would all be in trouble.

Malina Horton, Clovernook Elementary: The story about the “Ugly Dogs” was hilarious – especially the motorcycle riding dog. Was he riding it for real, or did somebody have a remote? If they didn’t that would be so “awesome.” I wish my dog could do that.

Tony Bilic, Headlands Elementary: I think that the Boston Terrier was cool. If I had a pet I would teach him all kinds of tricks. If the dog could go faster on the motorcycle, he'd be perfect for the road!

Sean Kidd, Headlands Elementary: I thought the alligators were cool. Last time I went to Florida I only saw two alligators! I would love to be at Shark Valley because I love animals!

Hannah Morenz, Headlands Elementary: I really liked the spelling bee. I wish I could spell like that. They must have studied really really hard. Maybe when I get a little bit older I'll be in a spelling bee. I'll have to practice hard, just like them.

Sharon Brickey, Montrose Elementary: Shark Valley seems so scary. I mean walking three feet from a life alligator! I hope they feed the alligators before you walk in. I have touched a baby alligator. It felt cold and scaly. I have also been to Florida.

Nicole Hoyer, Montrose Elementary: That Alligator is the coolest alligator I have ever seen! I'm going to Florida for spring break, but I'm going to be far away from the National Park but I really want to go there. I would be like 2 feet from him. I went to an alligator place 2 years ago. There was a stairs that were made out of rope and we saw the alligators right beneath us!

Bella from Kitty Hawk Elementary: I would not touch an alligator for $100,100 , because you don't know when he might eat you.

Jada from Kitty Hawk Elementary: I liked the stories about the dogs. It was nice of that boy to get money for dogs instead of gifts for himself. How did the dog get on a motorcycle?

Ethan from Kitty Hawk Elementary: Wow! The dog on the motorcycle was amazing! How did they keep him on? I wonder if when he beeps the horn if it says, "Dog on a motorcycle. Beep! Beep!"

Jacob Arens, Montrose Elementary: I'm very scared of tornados. They are freaky so much. I am glad I live in a place that doesn't get a lot of tornados. Rain is fine, thunder storms ok, tornados aaaahhhhhhhhh.

Leah Hiller, Montrose Elementary: I liked the story about Siris Letendre giving donations to the dog rescue. I liked it because I did that for my tenth birthday. The place I gave my money to is Capital Area Humane Society. I have been supporting them since I was five. A lot of people in Columbus donate to animal shelters. Siris must be happy with what he did…. So should the dogs. I’m happy he did that.

Alexandria Ford, Montrose Elementary: WHOA! That was one big tornado. I would have been so terrified if I saw it! I’m so happy that I don’t live in Tornado Alley. My mom has seen a tornado before. I wonder what those people were thinking as the tornado passed their house. I know that I would be thinking that the tornado was going to pass over! I’ve seen a funnel could before, it was right over my house! I ran down to our basement! But luckily it didn’t turn into a tornado.

Nicholas Butler, Montrose Elementary: I thought it was crazy that there is a park that lets you roam around with alligators! I would be freaked out if I was roaming around in Ohio and all of a sudden I saw a huge alligator blocking the road. I want to go to that park so bad but the alligators are about 2 TIMES THE SIZE OF ME. One time my dad was being chased by an alligator when he was golfing and he had to get away by driving his golf cart I thought that story was funny. I hope nobody gets attacked at the park.

Max Hooker, Montrose Elementary: I thought those Alligators were awesome! The only creepy part to me about Alligators is the weird sound they make when they open there mouths. Besides that I think there cool. If I get close to a Big Alligator I hope it doesn't whack me with its BIG tail or bight off my leg or something like that.

Maria, Lakeview Middle School: Wow! That is so sweet that a 6-year-old would want no gifts for his birthday and wanted to donate instead. When I was 6 I wanted gifts. I would never have thought to donate to animals in need instead.

Hannah Schoen Meadowlawn: Ahh, I hate alligators. I would be shivering to death. I would have to stand a mile away. I do not want to be his lunch. Trust me it will eat me alive. Never will see one or get near!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Robbie Rouse, B.L. Miller Elementary: I liked the story about Shark Valley and the alligators that roam it. I would not touch an alligator and be the first person to be hurt by an alligator in Shark Valley. If I were an alligator in Shark Valley I would be lazy and lay in the water all day. I would go there and see the alligators and take pictures of them. My brother would be scared and run away.

Jessica Jackson, B.L. Miller Elementary: I thought that the little girl who saved her town was a hero!!!! If that were my town we would need to go to every door to get their attention. If we had a bell it would be easier because there are a lot of houses!!! She is so cool!!!!

Kyle Youmans, B.L. Miller Elementary: I liked the story about the kid in the Scripps Spelling Bee. I have been in my school spelling bee in 3rd 4th and 5th grade, every year. I have never won though. In 3rd I got out on "Whose". Then, in 4th I got out on "Exercise", and Finally, in 5th I got out on "Mildew", but I'll be in sixth next year, and each year, except for fourth, I was beaten by a 6th grader. Maybe this will be my lucky year, well, next year.

Mayzi Stella, B.L. Miller Elementary: I loved the story about the alligators. I hope that place is still there when I grow up. I want to go there when I grow up, I might take my Kids there. If you haven't noticed I love alligators.

Angelica from Barlow Vincent Elementary: Wow! That kid sure can spell anything! I may have made it to the district spelling be but he can spell better then me! If only I was him, then my family would be proud of me.

Maddy Knoth, St. Peter School: The alligators at Shark Valley were sooooooooo cool! I wish I could go there but if I did my mom would freak out if she saw one. She is afraid of alligators. Even though I like alligators, I don't want one as a pet. I don't know where I would keep it.

Lauren Radaker, Greenview: I am glad you can have this show! I love your stories! Especially the story about Martina and she saved the people in her town from a tsunami. She was really brave! Also Katy is amazing! I would have been very scared to be alone on the ocean for 3 months. I was shocked that the alligators did not attack. I would never go there. I am afraid of all reptiles and I won't go near any of them. Thank you for having Newsdepth!!

I liked the story about the American alligators, it was funny because some people were afraid to pet them, I would not pet them either. Brent Holtevert New Knoxville School

Marcus Nitschke, New Knoxville School: I thought the gators in Shark Valley were really cool. Why do they call it Shark Valley anyway? I mean, it's home to alligators, right? I think it'd be cool to go near one of those scaly brutes....... as long as they're in Shark Valley.

Eric Prater, New Knoxville School: I thought the story about the alligators was interesting. I would be scared to go there. I am not a big fan of alligators. If I ever did go there I would definitely be on a bike!

Alex Lehman, New Knoxville School: I don't get why you would want to have an ugly dog contest. It is yet good and mean at the same time. Some dogs just have that natural talent. My favorite best dressed one was the dog on the motorcycle.

Kayla Jaynes, New Knoxville School: think that the alligators in the park were cool! It would be scary to go near them though. I think they should warn you before you go in. I can't wait till next week’s news.

Kyle Darovich, Roosevelt Elementary: It was so cool about the alligators, when they did not even care about the people. If I were those alligators I would have done the same thing because I would never want to hurt anyone. I wonder why it is called that name for the park when it should be called alligator alley.

Ken-Daija D. Todd, Clovernook Elementary: “Tremendous! She saved her village!” Okay, she’s supernatural. She did something so wonderful. Martina is a very intelligent girl, just like some of us here in fifth grade. Martina’s village should thank her for the generous thing she did. If something were to happen here in my city, right before it I would wish Martina were here.

Meki Sams, Clovernook Elementary: I like that the alligators did not charge at the people. If I saw an alligator lying on a sidewalk, I would run! I can’t believe people would get that close to an alligator. I don’t think that is a great idea!

Emily Knasel, Northwood School: I liked the story about the alligators. That was so cool! I would be afraid that one of the alligators would try to bite off my head! AAHHH! I would probably still go in there, though. How cool would that be? Again, awesome!

Alyssa Jones, Northwood School: I’ve been in a spelling bee before but I get stage fright. I’m a good speller but I can’t spell any big words. I can only spell small words like “history” or Indians.” I was in a spelling bee in third grade. But the boy on the show was a great speller.

Josh Abbott, Northwood School: I love dogs! I think all dogs are cute, no matter what they look like. My dog is not well trained. He’s my best friend, though. I love him with all my heart.
