NEWSVIEWS 2-1-12

Gavin Bockroth, Longfellow Elementary: Wow! I thought that the crossing guard dog was cool. I wish we had one at our school. We use teachers for our crossing guards. They help me cross the street.

Amaya Matlock, Longfellow Elementary: Wow. I think that those houses on wheels were so cool. I could never live in a house like that. It is too small. But it would be cool to travel with it. I would just sleep in my own bed.

Eric Pulfer, Longfellow Elementary: Wow!! That snow is crazy. 20 feet. That would be awesome if we had that much snow. You could make thousands of snowmen. Anyway, I hope all of that snow melts and I also hope it melts in the houses.

Noah Meyer, Harding Middle School: I think Sophie the crossing guard is really cool. It’s amazing how she is really good at it when it has only been a month. I wish I had a dog like that.

Josh Baker, Harding Middle School: I can’t believe how much snow Alaska got. Over 300 inches is unbelievable. I can’t imagine trying to get out my door, and being trapped from all the snow. I wish we had that much snow in Ohio.

Taia Molina, Harding Middle School: I liked learning about the Chinese New Year. Their traditions are really fascinating. The singing sounds good too! The night parade is really colorful and pretty. I want to travel to China someday. I hope I can see the Chinese New Year.

Vincent Bellini, Noble Elementary: I think that a dog being a crossing guard is cool. He even gets a small stop sign. I wonder if it gets tiring crossing the street all the time. His owner must be proud of him for helping kids cross the street safely.

Shelby Engle from Nashport Elementary: Wow!! The miniature home idea is really cool! I'd love to live in one of those houses! It's amazing how much room is in one of those too. But what would be really great is if I lived in one the mini houses and had a dog just like Sophie the crosswalk dog! Way to go Sophie!!

Parker C., Ralph E. Waite Elementary: I think that the aquarium is very cool. I like how you get to walk in the tube and then you can see all of the sharks and fish. I want to see it in real life and be amazed.

Madeline V., Ralph E. Waite Elementary: I really liked the dog that carried the stop sign. It was so cool! I've never seen a dog do that! I hope it gets better at its job and in a few months I hope it has learned what to do perfectly!

Alex Newman, Waite Elementary: I cannot believe that a dog like Sophie can be a crossing guard. I have a dog named Chance. I think that he would like doing that but he would probably get a little crazy about all the people. Sorry if this is the 100th letter about the dog. Woof! Woof! Yes I know chance you would love that job!!!

Gabrielle, Valley View Elementary: I thought how the Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year was cool! I love to eat Chinese Food and try to use chopsticks. Last year, in second grade we studied Chinese New Year and at the end of the unit we had a lunch-in and ate ramen noodles. When I saw the dog, I was really impressed. Every year at my school we have a walk to school day and everyone that can comes to Valley View Park and we all walk to school together. It would make me smile to be able to cross the street with a dog on my way to school.

Abby A., Hilltop Elementary: Chinese New Year always seems so festive! So much singing, dancing, happiness and definitely a lot of color. China is such a beautiful place and I'm glad that they always have such a happy New Year. We just ended our New Year and they are just beginning theirs!

Nikhil Murali, Hilltop Elementary: That huge snowfall in Alaska looks really fun to play in. You could build a snow fort a mile long, and a tall snowman. But you can’t step outside without snow flying into your face, so I guess it would be difficult to play outside.

Gabe C., Hilltop Elementary School: I really liked the segment about the small mobile home. It really sparked my imagination. It must be awesome to live on the road where one day you live in Cleveland and the next day you live in Columbus. One day I hope to build a home like that so I can campout at Cedar Point.

Amanda L., Hilltop Elementary school: I think it is great for children to be able to learn even on snow days!! I think it is much better to learn than to stay home. After all, everyone should learn something new every day!!

Hilltop Elementary School, Dylan Cira: That dog is awesome. I can’t believe that a dog can be a cross guard. My dog would not be able to stand for that long. She would get too tired. I wish that dog was a cross guard in my neighborhood so I could see it every day. It would make going to school more exciting.

Olivia Williams, Hilltop Elementary: Wow! Alaska has so much snow! I guess that’s where all of Ohio’s snow went. Normally Ohio has so much snow. But I guess Alaska has it all. My mom is so happy that it is not snowing. I hope the snow comes soon in Ohio.

From Ryan Brown at St. Peters School: I really liked the story about the Tuskegee Airmen. It was really cool to learn about them. I will try to watch the movie about the Tuskegee Airmen. Also I liked the clips you showed us in the episode. I hope to learn more about the Tuskegee Airmen.

This is Madi Lawson from Meadowlawn School. Our class watches Newsdepth every week and we love it! This week I thought that the Chinese New Year was so cool and amazing. I liked the parade with a dragon at night. We have a Chinese teacher Mrs. Chang. It is sometimes hard to understand what she says sometimes. I think it would be cool if I could get to go to the Chinese New Year in China. Those lights in China were so bright and dazzling.

I am Shelby from Meadowlawn School. I think E-day is a good idea because if you have 5 snow days in a row you still need to be able to learn. It’s just like going to cyber school! But, what happens with the kids who don't have computers? I guess they don't get their work done! I think E-day is a cool idea.

Brendan Wells, Our Lady of Grace School: I like the story about how Valdez, Alaska is under twenty-seven feet of snow. I like snow a lot but I could never imagine being stuck inside your house until the snow clears! I hope that the people in the houses have enough food and water. Also I wish that their driveways are cleared by now. I think that it would be horrible being in Valdez, but I would like to see that much snow! Maybe they left enough snow to let the kids go sledding!

Barrett Howson, Our Lady of Grace: I thought all those really little houses were pretty cool. I think if you were going to throw a party, you would only be able to invite 3-4 people over. I used to think my house was small, but now I think it isn't. My favorite house was the one that looked like a mailbox. I thought the little houses were interesting to learn about, but I do not want that small of a house to live in.

Sam Gerhard, Our Lady of Grace: I thought that segment about the Tuskegee airman was really cool, since I just saw the movie on Friday! I really find the Tuskegee airman very interesting I would love to learn more about them. I can't believe some of them live in Ohio. I'm so glad their bravery is being recognized thank goodness we had them during the war. Thank you for putting that segment on the show so more kids could learn about them.

Katelynn Setters, Our Lady of Grace: Wow! That would be so cool to have a dog escort me to school. I think it is so cute that Sophy has her own little stop sign. I now want to go to Greenwich, New York just to see Sophy. I hope Sophy does her job, and keeps everyone safe. I always have loved dogs, and now I really do. I would love to meet Sophy. Wouldn’t you?

Emily Browne, Our Lady of Grace: I think that it is cool that people have homes that have wheels. I would be so excited if I had a house with wheels, because when my family goes on trips I sometimes miss my home and if we go on trips my house would be right there with us. But at the same time it would be hard to fit four people in a tiny space.

Alex Shood, Dodge Intermediate: If we had a snow day and had to do school work on line I would do it, but I would not appreciate it. I have to keep up those grades to be very smart and accountable in life.

Malia Wilson, Dodge Intermediate: It is amazing how that dog knows when to go and not to go. I wish I had a dog like that, just in case.

Lucas Fisher, Dodge Intermediate: I have not been to the new aquarium, but I would go if there were some hands-on activities like touch a stingray. Stingrays are soft and slimy.

Sarah Marr, Huntington Elementary: The tiny home is really cool. I really like it. I wonder how they picked out the name for it. I would live in that house!

Abbey Rzeszutko, East Woods Elementary: I think the homes on wheels are awesome. If I had a house on wheels I would travel around the United States. Plus, I would clean my room faster.

Frank Portman, East Woods Elementary: I think the dog is really cool. In a few more years, he could be in an airport helping airplanes take off! Now THAT would be awesome!

Nikki Lankford, Montrose Elementary: I thought that dog was very cute and does a very good job crossing kids across the street! I am a crossing guard at my school and it would so cool to have a canine companion helping me keep kids safe! I hope that will happen some day!!!

Miles Sanford, Montrose Elementary: If I lived in a motor house I would go crazy because my brother could find me really easily.

Freya Haines, Montrose Elementary: One time in Nebraska the snow was taller than me and I’m like five feet tall. It was up to my grandpa’s nose and he is six feet two. I’m glad I’m not near that snow blizzard.

Julia Miracle, Montrose Elementary: I’m from China and I love Chinese New Year. I would want to go to China and celebrate. It looks like so much fun! Boy I wish I could have gone. Did you know the New Year in China didn’t start until midnight on Monday the twenty-third. It’s an extra special year because it’s a water-dragon year and those only come every sixty years. I wonder why?

Alexander Gombita, Sacred Heart of Jesus Academy: I think the people in the small home were funny. If I had a dog, it would be a perfect home for him!

Bryce Adkins, Emerson Elementary: I liked that proto house or sailboat on wheels. I think when I am older I will make one of those. It looked like an okay size of a house. I would make mine look like a checkerboard.

Samantha Snider, Emerson Elementary: I thought the Cleveland Aquarium was awesome. I would like to go there someday. I have been to Ripley’s Believe it or Not Aquarium. It was really cool. It had a tank that you could walk through too. But this aquarium was in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. I wish I could go back to Gatlinburg.

Jamol Coles Jr., Greenview: I liked the story about the dog helping the kids cross the street. Seeing him carrying that mini stop sign would make my day!

Allie, Greenview: I thought that the aquarium was so cool! They were talking about it on the news. I live very close to downtown Cleveland, so I am going to try to convince my mom to take me there.

Kelis Simpson, North College Hill Middle School: I like the topic when the dog was a crossing guard. I like this topic because she was a nice dog. She is a dog that helps. If I had a dog like that I would be very proud of her.

Jalen Davis-Thompson, North College Hill Middle School: Think about being surrounded by 27 feet of snow. That’s pretty scary. As soon as you open the door your house is filled with snow. It will take weeks to clean up all the snow. If your house is filled with snow it might as well be an igloo! Good luck to the people with snow in their homes!

Kassidy Voss-Wesley, North College Hill Middle School: My favorite topic was when the kids had e-days. I didn’t know there could be too many snow days. It’s surprising to me. Where I live there isn’t much snow on the ground. Snow is fun and cool (to me at least). Those kids are very lucky!

Abby Poore, North College Hill Middle School: That is so cool that you can walk under the sharks while they’re swimming above you. I love sharks so much. They are so cool. I wish I had a shark tooth. Did you know there are 350 species of sharks? The biggest shark is the whale shark. The most dangerous shark is the great white shark.

Vernecia Byrd, North College Hill Middle School: It is so cool to see a dog doing a human’s job. It must not be just for humans after all, and I guess dogs are as smart as humans. I hope one day I will see the dog helping me across the street.

Carlie Hendrickson, Isham Elementary: I thought that crossing guard dog was so cute. If I was one of those children walking across the street I would feel so safe with him being there. I wish he was my dog so I could be with him all the time. I wish he was my dog then I could walk home with him every day from school. I hope someday he can be a professional crossing guard dog.

Hannah Storm, Heritage Elementary: My favorite story was about Alaska buried under 27 feet of snow. I’ve never seen so much snow in my life! I know Alaska gets a lot of snow, but 27 feet to me is unbelievable. If I had that much snow there, I would not dare open the door.

Brandon Stevens, Sidney Fenn Elementary: I loved how the dog was a crossing guard. I guess that German shepherds can do more than help the FBI. They probably keep millions of people safe. They would make a good guard dog. I really want a German shepherd. I’ve never had a dog. I’ll get a Doberman shepherd in middle school.

Sara Calderon, Isham Elementary: I liked the story about the dog who became a backup for the crossing guard. It was so cool and he was a really cute dog. I think it was cute that they make little stop signs. I didn’t know they made those little signs.

Brianna, Riverside Elementary: Those bikes were expensive! Biking must be fun since it’s -40F! The dog following them was really cute. I wonder if he gets cold, because I get cold just thinking about it!

Christopher, Riverside Elementary: I liked the part where the dog was holding the stop sign. I didn’t know dogs could do that. Dogs are awesome.

Samuel, Riverside Elementary: I liked the story about the portable homes. I would like to live in one of those when I get older. It’s a good thing I’m not claustrophobic.

Teagan Sanda, Ledgeview Elementary: I thought the story about the dog was cool! It was amazing how the dog tried to kill the snake. He was so brave! If I saw the snake I would scream. One time I saw a snake in my grandmother’s back yard, but it was small. I feel sorry that the dog is still at the vet. I would love to have a dog like that!

Clay McMillan, Ledgeview Elementary: I think that the ice breaker is cool! I never thought that the ice breaker would make a path through the ice for the Russian tanker. I would have not thought that a Russian tanker would hold 1.3 million gallons of fuel! I hope that all the fuel will get to Alaska. I also hope that the Russian tanker will get back home safe.

Ryan Walsh, Ledgeview Elementary: I liked the snow. It looked like five feet of snow! They couldn’t even get out of the house! You could make a HUGE fort, but it would hurt if it fell on you. You couldn’t move if you got stuck. I wish I could play in that. I would LIVE in my fort!

Makenna Kravchuck, Ledgeview Elementary: I really liked those winter bikes. They had big wheels that were really fat. The bikes felt like you were on a monster truck. I’ve never been on a monster truck. It would be really cool if it felt like a monster truck. I love riding my bike, and I can’t ride my bike in the winter. I really want one of those bikes.
