The national airing of Ken Burns' film, The War -- an exploration of World War II told through the experience of individuals in four American towns -- has initiated comprehensive community engagement initiatives all around the country. In Northeast Ohio, as a part of the national effort to preserve the firsthand telling of WWII stories, WVIZ/PBS, in partnership Cleveland State University, interviewed area veterans over a three-day period in August. Segments of the interviews, entitled "War Memories," will run on WVIZ/PBS and 90.3 WCPN throughout the months of September and October. Each vet's story will be accompanied by his or her pictures and mementos. This is a chance to know this part of history from the perspective Northeast Ohio neighbors who lived it.
