Lesson Synopsis: From icy tundra to scorching deserts to
salty oceans, the world’s habitats are diverse and fascinating.
Each habitat, with its own special set of conditions, supports animals
and plants adapted to living in it. By becoming “habitat pen
pals”, your students will learn about the diversity of habitats
around the world, and will write letters from the perspective of
organisms living in these habitats.

Standards Alignment: Grades 3-8 (Heavy Hitter gr. 6-7)
Topics Covered: Diversity and Interdependence of Life,
Characteristics and Structure of Life; ecosystems
Lesson Synopsis: In this activity, students will take a
closer look at one particular ecosystem (a forest) and will discover
the ways that plants and animals are connected to each other. By
substituting the appropriate information, you can also use the activity
to study other ecosystems such as oceans, wetlands, deserts or prairies.
