Lesson Synopsis: The student will define acid rain; simulate the effects of acid rain on limestone and write a paragraph about life in a dying lake.

How Does Your Stream Flow?
Standards Alignment: Grades 3-5, 7
Topics Covered: Processes that Shape the Earth; Earth Systems; Diversity and Interdependence of Life Lesson Synopsis: Using a Stream Table, students will become familiar with stream features and the natural processes of erosion and deposition. They will also experiment with materials that might encourage more natural patterns of sediment movement and deposition. They will also explore the impacts of altering streams.

Runoff

Lesson Synopsis: Students will define surface water, runoff, drainage basin, watershed, permeable, and impermeable; identify factors affecting runoff in a drainage basin or watershed; and perform an experiment on drainage basins.

Stop That Sediment!
Standards Alignment: Grades 4 and 7
Topics Covered: Processes that Shape the Earth
Lesson Synopsis: The student will list soil conservation methods; identify sediment as a result of soil erosion and a water supply problem; demonstrate contour farming, windbreaks, and terracing as erosion prevention methods.
